My Completed Courses

I had a quick refresher on some important visual design principles such as symmetry, asymmetry, scale, frames, hierarchy and grids. Successful design is about the relationships between elements that complement the layout of the design. I mainly use most of these principles in InDesign for a magazine to frame and hierarchy design elements, but they can be used across software. I’ve also realised the rule of thirds is another principle similar to grid layout. This refresher reminds me to keep using these principles, even more deeply in brand design.

This LinkedIn course was very useful for me because it was insightful as a graphic designer to discover contextual information about typography when using it in designs, making it more purposeful and relevant. I learned that expressive typography is everywhere and can convey meaning or emotion instead of images. It can be plain, digital, big, experimental, hand-rendered and even throughout motion. Even the world’s largest independent design agency, Pentagram’s Paula Scher, uses expressive typography and helped to shape what we know of it today. I really did enjoy the course as a graphic designer. I can use different types of expressive typography with a meaning, but there is a rising trend of using it in motion.

Enhance user experience with Advanced Tabs, allowing seamless content navigation. Organize information efficiently while keeping the interface clean and interactive. Perfect for FAQs, product details, or multi-section content.

I couldn’t find a course more related towards graphic design and the sustainability impact. I have looked at this short online course on screen skills that had took me thirty minutes to complete. I found it insightful that the creative industry as a whole is included in the wide impact on climate change. Keeping my ethics when designing by making sure that my printed designs are recycled properly using B-Corp organisations like foilco when having designs created physically, to reduce the environmental impact. As a graphic designer I can have most of my work, contracts and conversations online which is more environmental friendly. screenskills cert introduction to sustainability for the screen industries jamie callaghan

Creative Network Calendar

The calendar below showcases the events and courses I have or will be attending. You can click on the event to see my comments about the event. These networking events are very important for me to build a positive network to gain different creative opportunities, and I will get updated bi-weekly.

Courses

I think I have a good amount of knowledge in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign as well as Figma. So I had focused on courses around design as well as gaining further knowledge on Adobe After Effects, which is still very new to me and important to learn with the increasing trends of motion when visualising brand identities. In the calendar above, ive also put some LinkedIn courses that I would like and when to do to build up my creative skillset

my career goals

I am a graphic design student, and I would like to be part of a design agency, especially after graduation (potentially part-time as a junior to gain industry experience). My specialist practice at the moment is brand identity, as I think a good brand is the backbone of a successful business, as it visually showcases to the audience the business values, so they know what to expect. In the summer, I would like to try to gain a design internship locally to expand my creative knowledge alongside creative network events and courses. I have been looking at opportunities online and emailed a few local design agencies with some speculative applications.

I will also use my LinkedIn connections to my advantage and will see if there are any summer internships happening through creative connections. I will also keep my eye out for networking events, where I have undertaken to gain connections and to see if there are any design summer internships.

I have already completed a range of online courses related to my discipline and have a lot more planned in my creative calendar. In the summer, I want to do at least one new course like planned bi-weekly, to keep my skillset up to date, aligning with current design trends. These will explore expanding existing skills like core design principles and typography, as well as learning more about UI/UX design and motion. As these are increasingly more important in the creative industry due to design trends and being more user interactive and experiential, that Ai cant replicate so far.
