Undergraduate Graphic Designer
More About Me?
I am Jamie, an undergraduate graphic design student, and I am passionate about using design as a powerful tool to communicate with audiences. I have three years of learning experience so far.
I am proficient in the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite and Figma, with a focus on visual brand identity, so I mainly use Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign in my brand-focused projects.
I have remote-based commission experience as a designer that involves a local community group’s visual identity and posters. I achieved first place in creating the Merseyside Police Christmas Card in 2023 for the Chief Constables’ competition.
I think graphic design is very important to the creative industry, and in the rest of my time in university, I want to expand my creative industry connections and gain further transferable skills to help me secure employment.
My Design Process
1. Negotiation
This involves understanding the expectations of a client before working on a brief, which also aligns with my personal ethics as a designer.
2. Research
Research is important to gather different styles and visuals for inspiration that shape the direction for the client that also works with my creative strengths.
3. Incubation
It involves mentally digesting and processing information to develop stronger ideas. While maintaining balance with personal, social and creative aspects, to maintain positive wellbeing.
4. Ideation
This is the main part of my creative process, as I can generate and develop ideas from the incubation stage. This is where I am experimenting, problem-solving and creating prototypes for a successful project.
5. Feedback
This is where I will make sure to get peer and client critiques for feedback to make sure it works for other audiences. This may sometimes involve revisiting ideation to make sure the client needs are met.
6. Verification
This stage focuses on the final design to ensure that it works for the client and meets the brief to be signed off. This could involve presenting professional mock-ups of designs on merchandise.
7. Reflection
I would reflect and evaluate how the project went and identify strengths and weaknesses, the areas of future development of skills that contribute towards my dream of running a design agency.
