In 2024, I entered the Chief Constable’s annual Christmas card competition that was open for young people right across Merseyside. I have read the brief that I have been given. The way I interpreted and thought of the brief is about wanting the community to acknowledge the time and effort that the Merseyside police put in to support the community 24/7, even in the Christmas season, to make sure everyone is safe. So the way I thought to design this Christmas card is to have it split into three sections. The first section will be like a window, and through the window you can see a Christmas tree, presents and maybe lights. This is to represent the community spending time with their family and celebrating Christmas while being safe in their homes. However, the second section could have a visual of a police officer working at the desk, maybe with a phone, to represent how they are still working during Christmas time. The last section could be a visual that shows a visual representation of diverse police officers helping the homeless on Christmas. I feel like all these sections represent how the police usually positively affect the community, making people safe, especially around Christmas time, while they are working. I wanted these visuals to have colours and items that represent Christmas, such as Christmas lights, decorations, trees, colours of red and green etc that visually are associated with Christmas. I wanted the title to be “We’re Here 24/7” to symbolise that the police officers are giving up their Christmas to work and keep us all safe. I wanted this design to have more imagery than words, as I feel like “a picture shows a thousand words”, as lots of people can interpret the design in different ways they view it. I am going to create this design using both Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop to hopefully get a professional finished design that I am happy with. I really liked the process of making it all and seeing a very good professional result. I was made up with the result as I was very happy with my work, and I hope you like it.
